Name: Angel McCoughtry
Height: 6'1"
Position: Forward
Class: Senior
School: Louisville

McCoughtry has great instincts on each end, drawing comparisons to Sheryl Swoopes. She really gets after it on the defensive side, evidenced by the fact that she ranks first all-time at Louisville in career steals. Recorded a career-high 10 steals against Hartford in December 2008. Has improved as an offensive threat each season, upping her scoring average to a career-high 23.8 ppg her junior year. Rebounds very well for her size, using her body to her advantage on the glass. Rounding her range to include the three-point arc, but must improve at the free throw line. McCoughtry is widely considered an elite talent and will likely go in the top three in this year's draft.

"McCoughtry is a very athletic wing player and is very solid defensively."

Graham Hays, Women's Basketball Contributor for ESPN

She can look a little awkward at times, but McCoughtry is a complete package of size and skill. As a competitor, she's also seemingly taken great strides the last two seasons to put to rest questions about her on-court maturity. Able to create her own shot off the dribble and knock down shots from outside, she's a plus player offensively and an opportunistic defender. After having a great deal of freedom in Louisville's system, one challenge may be getting comfortable is a more balanced pro system.

Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal

McCoughtry wasn't a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school, but she's never disappointed Louisville fans or coaches. And the never part is no joke. As of January 23, she has 47 double-doubles in her career, has scored more than 30 points 11 times during her career and midway through her senior season is already the school's all-time leader in points, rebounds, steals and blocks.

When McCoughtry arrived on campus, an already competitive program was put on 'Angel's wings' and taken into elite status in the rugged Big East Conference. She's good at so many things on the floor, but perhaps the best is creating her shot. It doesn't matter if it's a drive to the hoop, a move towards the baseline or a juke at the top of the key, McCoughtry always seems to get open. She's extremely quick laterally, so smart with the ball and has such great leaping ability that she has a pretty easy time of finishing her shots.

There's not much she doesn't do, including being a team leader. U of L coach Jeff Walz said it best early this season when he stated, "Is there anything she can't do?" His quick answer, "I haven't found it yet." McCoughtry is expected to be one of the top picks in the WNBA Draft and someone will get a winner and tremendous player.
