Monday Practice Report

Claire Meador
Lynx Writer

The team had an easy Monday practice today, despite the absence of one of their star players, Candice Wiggins.

During their relatively short practice, the team mostly worked on conditioning, weight-lifting and defensive drills to prepare for their next road game in Atlanta. Coach Cheryl Reeve said they're undoubtedly feeling the loss of Wiggins, even in practice.

"I think not having Candice out there gives us one less offensive option that I think we got comfortable with," Reeve said. "So we've got to figure that part of it out we have to fill that void in whatever way we can. We're going to try some different things starting lineup wise and try to find better combination's. Playing without Candice for the first time after we got comfortable using her; you know definitely I think had its affect."

Rookie Monica Wright, who is projected to get more playing time with Wiggins out, feels that the whole team is going to have to step up in Wiggins' absence to fill the void.

"I don't think it's going to be just me individually," Wright said. "I think it's going to be a combination of a lot of different players, and of course I'm going to have to man up you know coach says 'man down, man up,' but a lot of people are going to have to step up, me individually not sure but it's going to be a team effort because not one person can replace a Candice Wiggins."

Wright also pointed out that she feels the team is more than capable of winning games and playing successfully without Wiggins.

"You know that's not really an excuse that Candice isn't here," Wright said. "We're the type of team that in tough times you know we know in tough times we need to be able to show our character and push things out. The last loss you know it just had to do with us. It had nothing to do with the other team and we're learning still and we're definitely going to take that loss and learn from that."

The Lynx seemed focused on improving their game, and working on continuing to be a better basketball team.

"We're definitely taking it game by game," Wright said. "We're not going to look too far ahead, and we're not going to look in the past. We're going to take it game by game and focus on the now."

The Lynx head to Atlanta to face the Dream Thursday night with tipoff set for 7:00 pm.
